March 2017 Minutes
Monday, March 20, 2017
The meeting was called to order by President Karis at 7:05 pm.
Roll Call
Present: Olivia Karis-Nix, President; Sarah Niemitalo, Secretary; Mary Claire Aitken, Trustee; Zachary Goldstein, Trustee; Nathan Hans, Treasurer; Melissa Tacke, Library Director; Maria Marcucci, Trustee; Ryan Mullahy, Vice President.
Absent: Mary Claire Aitken, Trustee.
Treasurer Hans motioned to approve agenda, Vice President Mullahy seconded. Unanimously approved.
Public Comment – None
President’s Report
Director Tacke, Trustee Goldstein, and President Karis-Nix attended village board meeting. Director Tacke presented proposal for a library funding increase. Elections are coming up for village board members. President Karis Nix suggested writing a *letter to distribute to village board members, signed by library board members. The board agreed, Treasurer Hans will write letter to advocate for CPL for board to review and sign.
Secretary’s Report
Trustee Marccuci motioned to adopt the February meeting minutes, Treasurer Hans seconded. Unanimously approved.
Treasurer’s Report
Town funding came in so budget will see an increase.
February check detail approved by Trustee Marccuci, seconded by Vice President Mullahy.
Director’s Report
In addition to the town funding, funding from the Friends came in. Annual report with library statistics were sent to NYS DLD. Director Tacke reviewed the topics discussed at the recent Annual Staff Development Day which included; active shooter training. A Rensselaer County Sheriff came in to discuss what to do in active shooter situation. They discussed what is going well, what can be improved. Trustee Goldstein asked if there was anything that could be improved. Director Tacke stated that staff mentioned some operational things (physically moving items in library).

Friends Report
Barb Kelp states they have a very busy schedule coming up. They are looking to try something new this year and will hold a bottle drive April 20-24. Bottles can be brought to 6 Cent Redemption. They will advertise that bottles can be brought directly to 6 Cent Redemption.
April 15-May 11 another new program will be a Mother’s Day raffle. Three items for one raffle. They will also do a Father’s Day raffle. Quilt raffle coming up. Friends went up to entire schedule for year. They have discussed doing pasta dinner with silent auction on June 10. They are hoping to use the Castleton Fire Dept. but are waiting to hear back. They have new members. They gave CPL a check for $4,000 this year; in the past, they had only able to contribute $1,000-$1,200. Friends will sign *letter to village board as well to help advocate for CPL (see President’s Report).
Vice President Mullahy asked if Board should write a thank you note to the Friends for fundraising. Barb suggested coming to Friends meeting to say thank you in person. The Friends meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month.

Policy Committee – Tacke putting final touches on Disaster Plan
Long Range Planning Committee – Survey went out. People are returning hard copies to library, some are filling survey out online. Another Facebook announcement was made.
April focus group-each board member should try and find two people to participate. We will need to book space and provide food. Vice President Mullahy graciously volunteered to provide the pizza. We should aim to have two groups of 8-12 community members. Board agrees Saturday meeting would be best. The goal will be to have one focus group with people from village and one for people from town of Schodack. Melissa will ask Tim Burke, Director from UHLS if and when he could facilitate two focus group sessions. June-July will be the planning sessions
Old Business

Director Tacke asked board members to tell three people about the lighthouses talk on April 5
Library program attendance for board members- Vice President Mullahy will attend the chalk to walk
Trustee Marccuci will attend TED Talk and say hey to the friends. Secretary Niemitalo may attend the kazoo event or movie night, Sing.
New business – None.
Announcements
There is now a Friends of Main Street group. Treasurer Hans states they had a meeting last Thursday, March 16 and it had a lot of attendees. The next meeting is Thursday, March 30—brainstorming session.
