Notes from Our Director: 

Summer is in full swing at CPL! Have you signed up for our Summer Reading Club yet? Our program is inclusive of all ages -- including babies/toddlers, preschoolers, kids, teens, and adults. Join the fun and enter to win a $30 Amazon gift certificate (we'll draw 30 winners). You can sign up all summer long either in the library or online! 

A complete listing of our July events and take-home kits is below -- or you can download our Summer Reading Club guide for a full list of our events and take-home kits through the end of the summer. 

Planning to visit area museums this summer? Check out one of our museum passes to receive free or reduced admission. Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here for information about our museum pass program.

Pajama Storytime

Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.

July 5, 12, 19, August 2 (see below for special "Firefighter Storytime" on 7/26)

Feel free to wear your pajamas or bring a stuffed animal friend to this evening storytime! Ages birth-8.

Children from birth to age 5 are invited to enjoy stories, rhymes, music, and movement while building their early literacy and motor skills! Join us every Thursday for fun and learning.

Learn about chemical reactions by creating a fantastic foamy fountain of "toothpaste" fit for an elephant!

Marble Fun Run

Saturday, July 9, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Design & build a unique maze for a marble to go through, then drop a marble in and watch it work.

 
Star Wars Coding 
 
Monday, July 11, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Explore coding in the Star Wars universe! Move a hand to swing lightsabers, levitate X-wings, pilot starships, make Force lightning, and more. Recommended for ages 6-15.

Reptile Adventure
 
Monday, July 11, 6:00 p.m.

Rescheduled from 6/27. Reptile Adventure presents a hands-on, interactive educational program with live tortoises, lizards, and snakes! Participants will get the opportunity to touch and hold some of the animals, and they'll be able to watch some of them eat. We'll discuss topics including ecology, adaptations, and invasive species. Funding for this event provided by Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program.

Cool Science: Lava Lamps 

Tuesday, July 12, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. 

Discover the science behind how lava lamps work, and make your own simple lava lamp!

Tuesday, July 12, 6:00 p.m. 

Join us for an indoor, 45-minute yoga session with Patricia McCarthy. Bring your own mat. All skill levels welcome. Ages 12 & up.
Teen Time: Record Breaking Challenges

Wednesday, July 13, 4:00 p.m. 

Have you ever wondered if you could break a world record? Join us to attempt fun challenges for prizes (even if you don't break a record!). For teens going into 6th-12th grades in the fall.
Hip Dips

Wednesday, July 13, 6:00 p.m. 

In this class with Honest Weight Food Co-op, kids and teens will create yummy fruit and veggie dips. We will use a variety of fresh fruits and veggies for our healthy snack. Funding for this event provided by Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program.
Pool Noodle Unicorns

Thursday, July 14, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. 

Are you obsessed with unicorns? Make a unique unicorn using our craft supplies and a pool noodle!

Friends of CPL Music on the Lawn

Wednesday, July 20, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Presented by the Friends of Castleton Public Library. Enjoy live music by Gone Gray on the front lawn! All ages. The Friends of CPL will be selling refreshments at this event, with all proceeds to benefit the library. 
    
Cool Science: Slime

Come meet a pig! We’ll be reading a story about pigs and then meeting and learning about a therapy pig.
Teen Time: Trivia

Thursday, July 28, 4:00 p.m. 

Do you think you have what it takes to win a trivia contest? If you get the most points in our trivia game, you may earn a small prize! For teens going into 6th-12th grades in the fall.

Water Balloon Baseball

Friday, July 29, 1:00 p.m.

Beat the heat with this exciting version of baseball using water balloons — be prepared to get wet! Recommended for ages 7 and up. Held outdoors, weather permitting. 
 
Learn About Your Local Mammals

Friday, July 29, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Location: Schodack Island State Park, 1 Schodack Island Way, Schodack Landing, NY 12156.

Learn all about mammals that live near you! Participants will be able to touch and feel mammal pelts and skulls. An environmental educator from Schodack Island State Park will teach participants about each unique mammal. The program will end with a short story about mammals read by Castleton Public Library staff. Recommended for ages 3-12. Registration required; call 518-732-0187.
 
Tie Dye

Saturday, July 30, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Bring your plain tees, socks, or anything else that needs brightening to the library and twist some color into your life! Held outdoors, weather permitting.

Check Out Our Digital Collections!

The Upper Hudson Library System hosts a great collection of ebooks, digital audiobooks, digital magazines, and streaming video, resources for research, and more! Click here to visit our page about digital resources. 
Borrow a WiFi Hotspot

Did you know that we loan WiFi hotspots? They can be borrowed for 14 days -- all you need is your library card! Hotspots are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can only be checked out and returned at CPL. Call 518-732-0879 or email director@castletonpubliclibrary.org for more information. 
WiFi Inside & Outside Our Building

Our WiFi is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can access the public WiFi on the front lawn, or alongside the building on Stimpson Avenue (the signal is strongest near the front of the building). Just look for the network called "Castleton Public Library." There's no password to connect!
