Books By Mail Program

The Castleton Public Library Books By Mail program sends large print books and audiobooks via mail to patrons who cannot visit the library due to visual impairment, physical limitations, or other disabilities. Postage for this program is covered by USPS’ Free Matter for the Blind program.

Criteria for Eligibility
Library staff are eligible certifiers for this program. Our criteria for eligibility are that the patron meets all of the following eligibility guidelines:

• Is a Castleton Public Library patron
• Is a resident of the Village of Castleton or Town of Schodack
• Requires large print materials or audiobooks
• Has difficulty coming to the library (as defined by patron and attested for by filling out the registration form)

General Policy

• Patrons will register for the program by filling out the online registration form (link below) or by requesting a paper registration form available at the library. Once registered, a library staff member will reach out to the patron via indicated preference to set up their Books by Mail account.
• Up to three books (or audiobooks) can be sent at a time. More books can be sent as soon as borrowed books are returned.
• Standard check out time will be 6 weeks (two additional weeks to allow for shipping time). If there are no holds on books, they can be renewed for up to two additional four week periods.
• Patrons can request additional materials by phone, through the additional materials request online form, or via a note sent with returned materials. New materials will not be sent out until all previous materials have been received by the library.
• Out-of-system book requests cannot be accommodated through the Books by Mail program.
• This is a fine-free program.
