News from Castleton Public Library - June 2026 View this email in your browser What's New in June 2026:  Summer is just around the corner, and we're gearing up for our annual Summer Reading Club! We have many exciting programs to attend and activities to complete, keeping kids and teens engaged and active all summer long.  Over the summer, students risk losing some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year. Participating in Summer Reading helps maintain reading skills and helps kids and teens stay motivated to learn. We also have an early literacy component of our program to engage babies, toddlers, and preschoolers and help get them ready to read.  And Summer Reading isn't just for kids. We're offering programs that are fun for the whole family, as well as programs for adults. By participating in the Summer Reading Club, children, teens, and adults can also enter to win a $25 Amazon gift certificate!  Summer fun at the library begins on Friday, June 26 from 11:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. when the library hosts our Summer Reading Kickoff. Come sign up for our Summer Reading Program and enjoy some free ice cream, courtesy of Stewart's Shops! Can't make it to the kickoff? Our StoryWalks June StoryWalk @Schodack Island State Park Location: Schodack Island State Park, 1 Schodack Island Way, Schodack Landing, NY 12156 The StoryWalk begins near the playground and is available anytime! Enjoy a StoryWalk with your family! Cricket Song by Anne Hunter will be up all month long. Adult Sewing Class Series: Sew a T-shirt Quilt (4 of 4)   Monday, June 1, 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. Turn your favorite shirts into a cozy, one-of-a-kind quilt! Join us for a four-part adult sewing series where you’ll learn how to prepare, cut, arrange, and stitch together a memory-filled T-shirt quilt. Whether you’re a seasoned sewist or a complete beginner, this hands-on class will guide you through each step—from stabilizing fabric to assembling your finished quilt top. All materials provided; bring your own beloved T-shirts to transform. After Dinner Book Club Monday, June 1, 7:00 p.m. Join us the first Monday of each month for a book discussion! This month's selection is Someone Like Us by Dinaw Mengestu. Books are available at the front desk. D&D for Adults   Tuesday, June 2, 5:30 p.m. For ages 18+. Play D&D at the library! New players can arrive at 5:00; game play starts at 5:30. D&D for Adults meets monthly on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Little Ones Playtime   Saturday, June 6, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Little ones ages birth to 5 years are invited to drop in any time on Saturday or Sunday to play with a special assortment of fun toys geared toward young children. Fiber Arts Workshop   Monday, June 8, 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. For adults and teens 16+. Join us for our monthly Fiber Arts Workshop! Whether you're new to knitting and crochet or a seasoned fiber artist, this is the perfect place to share and create in a friendly environment. All skill levels welcome! Yarn and hooks/needles are available to beginners. Open Mic Night   Wednesday, June 10, 6:00 p.m. Musicians & poets - come share your talents! All ages welcome to perform and to watch. Create a Chain Reaction   Saturday & Sunday, June 13-14, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Using our kit, set up a course of ramps, hammers, and pendulums, then watch the chain reaction! CPL Board of Trustees Meeting   Monday, June 15, 7:00 p.m. Monthly meeting of the library's Board of Trustees. Members of the public are welcome to attend.  Paws to Read   Wednesday, June 17, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Join us for some reading practice with a certified therapy dog! Our friendly pup creates a calm, happy space for young readers. Practice reading aloud and enjoy furry encouragement! Registration is encouraged but walk-ins will be accepted if time permits. Build with Cardboard Bricks   Saturday & Sunday, June 20-21, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. See what you can create out of our large cardboard bricks that are perfect for building! Write Your Life: Memoir Writing for Adults Wednesday, June 24, 6:30 p.m. In this monthly workshop-style class, we will complete writing exercises that spark creativity and share our own pieces with the group in an effort to hone the craft of storytelling. Summer Reading Kickoff Friday, June 26, 11:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. School is out and Summer Reading is in! Sign up for Summer Reading and enjoy free ice cream, courtesy of Stewart's Shops. Uncharted Wild Reptile Show   Sunday, June 28, 12:00 p.m. You can look forward to meeting (mostly scaly) animals at Uncharted Wild’s interactive live animal show for all ages! Funding for this event provided by Stewart's Shops Holiday Match Program. Disney Con   Monday, June 29, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Get ready for a magical day at a Disney Convention! Come dressed as your favorite characters from Disney and join us for an afternoon of themed crafts, creativity, and fun. Dino Night Lights   Tuesday, June 30, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Create a prehistoric light-up scene that makes a cool night light or book shelf accessory! Summer Snacks: Fruit Smoothies   Wednesday, July 1, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Starts on the hour at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00. Looking for a refreshing treat on a hot summer day? Fruit smoothies make a delicious healthy snack! T-Rex Tea Party Storytime   Thursday, July 2, 10:30 a.m. Our storytime turns prehistoric this week with a fun twist on the traditional tea party! Don’t miss a visit from Hudson the T-Rex! Chalk the Walk Contest   Thursday, July 2, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Held outdoors, weather permitting. Chalk our library’s sidewalks and join in on some friendly competition! The winning designer will win a set of new art supplies! 4th of July Crafts   Friday, July 3, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Red, white, and blue galore! Celebrate the 4th of July with fun crafts at the library. Digital Library Resources Check Out Our Digital Collections! The Upper Hudson Library System hosts a great collection of ebooks, digital audiobooks, digital magazines, and streaming video, resources for research, and more! Click here to visit our page about digital resources.  Borrow a WiFi Hotspot Did you know that we loan WiFi hotspots? They can be borrowed for 14 days -- all you need is your library card! Hotspots are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can only be checked out and returned at CPL. Call 518-732-0879 or email [email protected] for more information.  WiFi Inside & Outside Our Building Our WiFi is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can access the public WiFi on the front lawn, or alongside the building on Stimpson Avenue (the signal is strongest near the front of the building).
