Our program is inclusive of all ages -- including babies/toddlers, preschoolers, kids, teens, and adults. Join the fun and enter to win a $25 Amazon gift certificate (we'll draw 25 winners). Check out one of our museum passes to receive free or reduced admission. Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Feel free to wear your pajamas or bring a stuffed animal friend to this evening storytime! Ages birth-8.  Beginner Yoga Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. July 9, 16, 30. Join us for an indoor yoga class geared toward adult beginners, with instructor Barbara Hacker. Please bring your own mat. Bridge Club  Fridays at 10:30 a.m.  July 12, 19, 26; August 2. Come play bridge with us! Geared toward beginners and players who need a refresher. All ages welcome. Kids Cook: Make Fruit Faces   Wednesday, July 10, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.   Here’s a way to play with food and eat it, too! Join us for a colorful, yummy, silly snack-making and eating activity with built-in vitamins. Open Mic Night   Wednesday, July 10, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.   Musicians and poets - come share your talents! All ages welcome to perform and to watch. Special Visitor Storytime: Dance   Thursday, July 11, 10:30 a.m.   Join us for a special dance-themed storytime with Heather from Isabelle School of Dance! Frankentoys: Make Your Own Perfect, Beautiful Monster   Thursday, July 11, 2:00 - 6:00 p.m.   For ages 12-18. We’ll break, cut, and pull apart old toys to re-engineer them with tape, glue, and ingenuity to create hideous, glorious, beautiful monsters. Come do your worst, young Frankensteins! Dino Discovery   Friday, July 12, 2:00 p.m.   Recommended for ages 4-8. How are dinosaurs different from other animals? What happened to the dinosaurs? What did they eat? What is a fossil? Explore the prehistoric world with MiSci as you learn how to identify dinosaurs while holding real fossils and creating your own Dino-fossil to take home. Funding for this event provided by Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program. Legomania   Saturday, July 13, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.   We’ll have lots of Legos out for this all-day build-a-thon! Tie Dye   Sunday, July 14, 11:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.   Held outdoors, weather permitting. Bring your plain tees, socks, or anything else that needs brightening to the library! Special Storytime: Musical Instrument Petting Zoo   Monday, July 15, 12:00 p.m.   Musician Bryan Kieser will bring instruments to this special storytime for you to hear and try out for yourself. Minecraft, Your Craft   Monday, July 15, 6:00 p.m.   For ages 7-12. Minecraft book author Nick Eliopulos will talk about how he looks to games for inspiration when writing his books, and he’ll provide you with a “crafting formula” for creating characters to populate your own stories! Cool Science: Water Bottle Rockets   Tuesday, July 16, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.   Held outdoors, weather permitting. Build and launch your own rocket using a bottle! Science educator Samantha Gladd leads this special activity for ages 4 and up. Afternoon Book Club: Write Your Life by Anna Quindlen   Wednesday, July 17, 1:00 p.m.   Join us the third Wednesday of each month for a book discussion! Books available at the front desk. Taste Testing for Kids   Wednesday, July 17, 3:00 p.m.   Recommended for ages 5-11. Can you tell what you’re eating if you can’t see your food? Come find out and compare tasty tidbits with this terrific (and not too terrifying) experiment! Taste Testing for Teens   Wednesday, July 17, 6:00 p.m.   For ages 12-18. Ready for adventure? Put on a blindfold and see what your taste buds tell you. Special Visitor Storytime: Tri-City Valleycats   Thursday, July 18, 10:30 a.m.   After reading a story about baseball, we’ll get to meet some special visitors from the Tri-City ValleyCats! Water Balloon Hot Potato   Friday, July 19, 12:00 p.m.   Held outdoors, weather permitting. A new spin on an old game: try not the burst the water balloon while passing it as fast as you can! (Don't be afraid to get wet!) DIY Pop Socket   Saturday, July 20, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.   Recommended for ages 12 and up. Decorate your own phone pop socket. Use a pre-made image or create your own. Marble Run Fun   Sunday, July 21, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.   Design & build a unique maze for a marble to go through, then drop a marble in and watch it work! Finger Paint with Pudding   Monday, July 22, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.   Finger paint with pudding! What else is there to say – except come prepared to be a bit messy. Acting and Improv Games   Monday, July 22, 6:00 p.m.   For ages 8 and up. This is a youth-focused class; parents/caregivers can participate with their child/teen. Join local actor and director Brian Sheldon for an evening of creative acting exercises and games! Herbs and Tea Sandwiches for Kids   Tuesday, July 23, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.   Recommended for age 5 and up. This class will be held on the hour at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00. See, smell, touch, and taste some summer herbs and make delicate herbed tea sandwiches to tempt your tastebuds. DIY Climbing Toy   Wednesday, July 24, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.   Come make a new-fangled version of an old-fashioned climbing toy using paper, string and your imagination. Friends of CPL Music on the Lawn: Scarlett Fever   Wednesday, July 24, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.   Held outdoors, weather permitting. Enjoy live music by Scarlett Fever on the front lawn! All ages. The Friends of CPL will be selling meatball subs, hot dogs, strawberry shortcakes, and drinks. Food sales from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Music from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Presented by the Friends of Castleton Public Library. Special Visitor Storytime: Therapy Pig   Thursday, July 25, 10:30 a.m.   Come meet a pig! We’ll be reading a story about pigs and then meeting and learning about a therapy pig. Cool Science: Scientific Method Made Colorful   Thursday, July 25, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.   Recommended for ages 8 and up. Go through the scientific method as you explore what makes food coloring react to milk. Paper Plate Ladybugs   Friday, July 26, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.   Join us to learn some fun facts about ladybugs and make your own out of a paper plate to take home! Make Your Own Puzzle   Saturday, July 27, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.   Stop in to color your own design on a blank puzzle you can take home and put together! Games on the Lawn   Sunday, July 28, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.   Held outdoors, weather permitting. Bring your family or friends to play Giant Connect Four, ladder toss, and other games! Upcycled Flower Book Ornament   Monday, July 29, 12:00 - 8:00 p.m.   Use old book pages to create something new: a beautiful literary flower ornament! Cool Science: Edible DNA   Tuesday, July 30, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.   Ever wonder what makes up your cells? How your body knows to code for cells. Come learn about the structure and wonders of DNA while making your edible DNA. Science Educator Samantha Gladd leads this special activity for ages 4 and up. Birds of Prey   Wednesday, July 31, 6:00 p.m.   Come see raptors such as owls, hawks, eagles, and falcons with Silent Wings Raptor Rehab and Education. Learn about them, their unique behaviors and the conservation issues that impact them. All ages welcome. Funding for this event provided by Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program. Field Trip Storytime: Meet a Mechanic   Thursday, August 1, 10:30 a.m.   We’ll read a story about cars, then walk over to M&M Auto and see a real mechanic in action! All ages welcome. Paper Beads   Thursday, August 1, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.   Join us for a paper bead-making session to learn the basics. Creative Writing Exercises   Friday, August 2, 2:00 - 6:00 p.m.   Calling all creatives! Join us for a series of creative writing exercises that can be completed at the library or to take home and try on your own! Cool Science: Be a Detective   Saturday, August 3, 11:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m.   Recommended for ages 8 and up. Join us and try your hand at detective work like identifying finger prints, cracking codes, and unearthing hidden messages. Digital Library Resources Check Out Our Digital Collections! The Upper Hudson Library System hosts a great collection of ebooks, digital audiobooks, digital magazines, and streaming video, resources for research, and more! Click here to visit our page about digital resources.  Borrow a WiFi Hotspot Did you know that we loan WiFi hotspots? They can be borrowed for 14 days -- all you need is your library card! Hotspots are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can only be checked out and returned at CPL. Call 518-732-0879 or email [email protected] for more information.  WiFi Inside & Outside Our Building Our WiFi is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can access the public WiFi on the front lawn, or alongside the building on Stimpson Avenue (the signal is strongest near the front of the building).
