Notes from Our Director: 

Summer is in full swing at CPL! Have you signed up for our Summer Reading Club yet? Our program is inclusive of all ages -- including babies/toddlers, preschoolers, kids, teens, and adults. Join the fun and enter to win a $25 Amazon gift certificate (we'll draw 25 winners). You can sign up all summer long either in the library or online! 

A listing of our July events and take-home kits is below -- or you can download our Summer Reading Club guide for a full list of our events and take-home kits through the end of the summer. 

Planning to visit area museums this summer? Check out one of our museum passes to receive free or reduced admission. Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here for information about our museum pass program.

Pajama Storytime

Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.

July 9, 16, 23, 30.

Feel free to wear your pajamas or bring a stuffed animal friend to this evening storytime! Ages birth-8. 

Beginner Yoga

Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

July 9, 16, 30.

Join us for an indoor yoga class geared toward adult beginners, with instructor Barbara Hacker. Please bring your own mat.

Bridge Club 

Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

For ages 12-18. We’ll break, cut, and pull apart old toys to re-engineer them with tape, glue, and ingenuity to create hideous, glorious, beautiful monsters. Come do your worst, young Frankensteins!
Dino Discovery

Recommended for ages 4-8. How are dinosaurs different from other animals? What happened to the dinosaurs? What did they eat? What is a fossil? Explore the prehistoric world with MiSci as you learn how to identify dinosaurs while holding real fossils and creating your own Dino-fossil to take home. Funding for this event provided by Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program.

Musician Bryan Kieser will bring instruments to this special storytime for you to hear and try out for yourself.
Minecraft, Your Craft
 
Monday, July 15, 6:00 p.m.
 

For ages 7-12. Minecraft book author Nick Eliopulos will talk about how he looks to games for inspiration when writing his books, and he’ll provide you with a “crafting formula” for creating characters to populate your own stories!
Cool Science: Water Bottle Rockets
 
Tuesday, July 16, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
 

Held outdoors, weather permitting. Build and launch your own rocket using a bottle! Science educator Samantha Gladd leads this special activity for ages 4 and up.
Afternoon Book Club: Write Your Life by Anna Quindlen

Held outdoors, weather permitting. A new spin on an old game: try not the burst the water balloon while passing it as fast as you can! (Don't be afraid to get wet!)
DIY Pop Socket

Recommended for ages 12 and up. Decorate your own phone pop socket. Use a pre-made image or create your own.
Marble Run Fun

Design & build a unique maze for a marble to go through, then drop a marble in and watch it work!
Finger Paint with Pudding

Acting and Improv Games

For ages 8 and up. This is a youth-focused class; parents/caregivers can participate with their child/teen. Join local actor and director Brian Sheldon for an evening of creative acting exercises and games!
Herbs and Tea Sandwiches for Kids
 
Tuesday, July 23, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
 

Recommended for age 5 and up. This class will be held on the hour at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00. See, smell, touch, and taste some summer herbs and make delicate herbed tea sandwiches to tempt your tastebuds.
DIY Climbing Toy

Come make a new-fangled version of an old-fashioned climbing toy using paper, string and your imagination.
Friends of CPL Music on the Lawn: Scarlett Fever
 
Wednesday, July 24, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
 

Held outdoors, weather permitting. Enjoy live music by Scarlett Fever on the front lawn! All ages. The Friends of CPL will be selling meatball subs, hot dogs, strawberry shortcakes, and drinks. Food sales from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Music from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Presented by the Friends of Castleton Public Library.

Cool Science: Edible DNA
 
Tuesday, July 30, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
 

Ever wonder what makes up your cells? How your body knows to code for cells. Come learn about the structure and wonders of DNA while making your edible DNA. Science Educator Samantha Gladd leads this special activity for ages 4 and up.
Birds of Prey

Come see raptors such as owls, hawks, eagles, and falcons with Silent Wings Raptor Rehab and Education. Learn about them, their unique behaviors and the conservation issues that impact them. All ages welcome. Funding for this event provided by Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program.
Field Trip Storytime: Meet a Mechanic

Cool Science: Be a Detective
 
Saturday, August 3, 11:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m.
 

Recommended for ages 8 and up. Join us and try your hand at detective work like identifying finger prints, cracking codes, and unearthing hidden messages.

Check Out Our Digital Collections!

The Upper Hudson Library System hosts a great collection of ebooks, digital audiobooks, digital magazines, and streaming video, resources for research, and more! Click here to visit our page about digital resources. 
Borrow a WiFi Hotspot

Did you know that we loan WiFi hotspots? They can be borrowed for 14 days -- all you need is your library card! Hotspots are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can only be checked out and returned at CPL. Call 518-732-0879 or email [email protected] for more information. 
WiFi Inside & Outside Our Building

Our WiFi is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can access the public WiFi on the front lawn, or alongside the building on Stimpson Avenue (the signal is strongest near the front of the building). Just look for the network called "Castleton Public Library." There's no password to connect!
